"안녕하세요 저는 주연입니다"
Hello, my name is Brandy. 안녕하세요 저는 주연입니다. (Juyeon is a Korean name I adopted). I have made this blog to share my Korean learning experience as well as my thoughts on Korean culture, language, TV and Korean Pop Music aka K-pop. I have now been listening to K-pop for over years and learning Korean for over 2 1/2 years. I was born and raised in Texas in the USA. I didn't even know much if anything about Korea for most of my life. But as a teenager I was surrounded by American and Japanese stuff and wanted something different to immerse myself into. So, naturally when Kpop introduced itself I jumped right in.
The first K-pop video I ever saw was 소녀시대 - Run Devil Run. After that I started searching for more and was not let down. I found SHINee and MBLAQ and many many more. After just 4 months of listening to K-pop I decided to start learning Korean. I started by learning the alphabet (한글). It was just 3 to 6 months before I was reading it at a regular pace and nowadays I can read fast enough to follow along with 90% of song lyrics. I just struggle following along with rap sections. I now also speak some Korean. Not as much as i'd like to but I guess I just have to remind myself I've only been studying it for not even 3 years and it's a language with a different alphabet. With roman languages it's a lot faster cause you can just start learning words and phrases right away but with most Asian languages you have to learn the alphabet and be able to read it before you can really start learning the language. I have often been complimented on my pronunciation. But in middle and high school I was in choir and sang songs in Hawaiian, Italian, French, German, Spanish and Latin. So I have no problem pronouncing anything in most foreign languages if I just apply myself. I hope you enjoy my blog. I work hard on it and will someday obtain the URL and make it my website. I'm actually pretty shocked I've kept it up for this long. But I hope to have it and blog my travels on here as well. Look forward to it!
