How Old Are You?
Age is just a number.
That phrase has come into my life at many times for tons of different reasons. One of the most recent has been my induction into the world of Kpop. Kpop fans, as I have learned, range in age from small children all the way up to parents and sometimes even grandparents. I've seen mothers and fathers of 2 and sometimes 3 children who are avid Kpop fans. Those of you who watched #MyKpop saw the lawyer and father of 2 who Vlogs and Blogs about Kpop so much that Mnet picked him to be a representative at KCon for the show. If you watched #MyKpop you also know that he wrote an article about 2Yoon that ended up in Time Magazine. And If I remember correctly the youngest representative on #MyKpop was 15 or 16. That is a pretty wide age range. When I first got into Kpop I was only 19 years old. I turned 20 two months later. I used to think of myself as an 'older' Kpop fan or an 아줌마 Kpop fan. But I soon met Kpop fans who were in their early 30's and older. I found out there are much older Kpop fans who have been into Kpop since before youtube. They would get onto Korean websites like Daum and Gom and watch the videos that way. I can't even imagine knowing very little Korean and having to do that. I applaud all of those awesome Kpop 아줌마 and 아저씨 fans.
I actually feel like being a 22 year old in the Kpop fandom is sort of awkward. I'm not a teen so I can't justify it that way. And I'm not an 아줌마 fan so I can't justify it by saying I've been in it since the beginning. Also at this point I have only been into Kpop for just over 3 years. So I'm still at this awkward stage. However I like to think of myself as a pretty competent Kpop fan.
