I realized I haven't mentioned Korean Dramas yet. After getting into Kpop usually the next step is either Variety shows or dramas. I never much got into variety shows. So i started watching the dramas. My first one was 미남이시네요 (You're Beautiful). If you haven't watched it i recommend you do. It's a classic drama with the usual main plot of a ton of dramas. Guy meets girl due to weird circumstances, they fall in love, etc. Then I watched 꽃보다남자(Boys Over Flowers) it also has the same basic plot idea. But if this isn't amusing to you there are plenty of other kinds of dramas with different plot lines and different main ideas.
For example, Vampire Prosecutor is like a Korean CSI with Vampires. In every episode they solve a crime and their main prosecutor is a vampire. The team has some very mixed characters and it makes for a new interesting episode every time. There are also historic dramas. I myself have never watched a historic drama but I know some people who have. My personal taste is my own. As of now I am keeping up with Vampire Prosecutor and have started watching My Girlfriend is a Gumiho. And I had to look this up. 구 (Gu) in Korean is the number 9 and 미호 (miho) really doesn't mean anything in the Korean but if you use the Chinese Hanja it means 'tailed fox' so, that is how you get 9-tailed fox. Riddle solved. It seems my taste in the supernatural has even leaked into my liking of Korean things. Dramas are also really fun cause as you're watching, even if you're watching with subs you sort of feel like you're in the action. I'm sure if you've ever watched a Korean drama you have yelled at the screen before and/or cried or laughed uncontrollably. It's inevitable.
So, if you have never watched a Korean drama I recommend you take the time to sometime. Everyone can find something they like. You might even get some of your friends who don't like Korean things into it with a drama. My boyfriend and his brother are watching Vampire Prosecutor as I type this. I feel very accomplished as a part of the Hallyu wave street team in Central Texas. Look forward to more entries about Dramas and Variety shows in the future. 안녕 for now.
