Sex. It's probably not a word you'll hear often in K-pop Or K-Dramas. Sex is a touchy subject in Korea. Even when it's between two Koreans, they still don't talk about it. Infact I've been learning Korean for over a year now and I have yet to see anything about the Korean word for sex or anything that has to do with sex unless I look in my Korean slang book. And especially in K-pop you will probably never hear them singing about sex or even anything close to sex; at least not intentionally.
However sex is a tool they use; sexuality that is. If you have ever been on Tumblr you know well enough that K-pop fanfiction is a huge craze. K-pop fans love to write about having sex with their favorite K-pop stars or their favorite K-pop stars having sex with each other. And, I don't know exactly. But I'd say at least 1 new fanfiction comes out a day. Whether it be on Tumblr or some other website. Fanfics (short for Fanfictions) are a widespread thing. Again I have no solid facts but I'm gonna say they are written by 17yrs+ and read by 14yrs+. Despite warnings of what is called 'smut' and/or innapropriate language and graphic scenes, these young kids still get on Tumblr and other sites and read these fanfics after being teased by K-pop. K-pop is a tease. K-pop is the kind of tease that will kiss you and leave you wanting more. K-pop is a tease. For the longest time Korea stuck to their morals and there was no cleavage. Sidenote: In Korea you can show as much leg as you want but cleavage is supposed to be a no-no. However nowadays it seems we got some cleavage making an appearance in music videos and comeback stages. Not sure if the clothes are just too small for the boobs. But cleavage is in the K-pop world despite old Korean traditions. And I bet if I showed any of my male friends who are not particularly fond of K-pop the Secret Music Video that the pic on the right is from they would probably say that the video and song are good and very possibly start listening to K-pop. It seems like most guys I meet are into girl groups and most girls I meet are into guy groups. And I have to then go back to the sexuality thing. Because, honestly, (opening up to you guys as my readers and being an honest blogger) I am bisexual and I have a tendency to love both guy and girl groups. So that right there just makes me feel even moreso that sexuality is a huge contributing factor in K-pop's popularity. Don't even get me started with the fact that asians are sexy. But part of that has to do with their obsession with beauty and their use of picking amazing looking people and/or taking average looking people and making them look amazing. No matter how you look at it you can't deny that atleast part of the reason you like K-pop is because of the beautiful people in it. Personally for myself K-pop has also desensitized me from the usual shock of people getting Plastic Surgery. Because it's not a shocking thing in Korea. People just get it and that's it. They don't make a big deal about it. And I don't blame them for that. That is part of what makes K-pop so sexy. These people who may not have had such symmetrical faces before get whatever they need to to look stunningly gorgeous and then we stare at them for hours on end without even thinking about what they looked like before. So I say 'Good for them'. I don't know if I could ever get that done but I am glad that they can because I love staring at them on my computer when I have nothing better to do. So, at the end of the day, after all that cleavage, all those short skirts, all that shirt ripping and all that suggestive dancing you can not deny the sexuality in K-pop and you can not deny that it at least makes you like it a little bit more than you did before. I know in my case that gif of Leader (Hyun Joong: Leader of SS501) to the right is most definitely ONE of my favorite things about K-pop. And it's not a crime. There is nothing wrong with liking those things because K-pop companies put those there for us. So go ahead and stare at Rain's (비의) abs or Hyosung's (효성의) cleavage because they are there after all. And as Martina (from EatYourKimchi) said "BEEEEEEWWWWWWWWBS". |
