Where Did They Go? (Why I Don't listen to many Male Kpop Groups)
So as you all probably know by now, I am obsessed with female kpop groups. But what you probably don't know is why. It's not that I don't like male groups at all. I like SHINee and Mblaq and some other groups. The thing is all the rookies I really get into either only release new stuff every now and again ( like Double A) or they up and disappear! I am starting to question my taste in music/rookie groups. Ninety percent of my favorite male rookie groups from late 2010 to now just disappeared or broke up and some members joined other groups who either also weren't popular or who I didn't know because I didn't look into it cause I was just sad the initial group broke up.
The first example I will use is the most recent, X-5. I was geared up for X-5's debut. I followed all the allkpop articles where they were introducing the members and I was hype. Then they debuted and I was surprised by how awesome the MV was. They were all very talented men and the company did a great job promoting them pre-debut. However, I feel like during their promotions the company kind of forgot to care. And after they were done with promotions it was pretty clear nothing else was going to happen. They just dropped right off the radar. Then the scandals popped up. The CEO of the company was in trouble. He went to jail and the whole company fell apart. Bye Bye X-5. Or so I thought. Just this year I find out 3 of the members of X-5 are in a group called LU:KUS.. however, LU:KUS doesn't have a very big following and past their debut video I have not seen or heard anything by them. Bye Bye LU:KUS.
Dalmatian is another example. Now they lasted longer than most but I feel like they are not coming back after everything. Their last release "Emergency" was pretty good but I haven't seen anything by them since. They were so good. They were different and creative and went to places musically and choreographically that other groups had not gone to. Not sure if it was the company, the group or the scandals but I feel like Dalmatian is no more.
Lastly I want to talk about HITT. They debuted in 2011 with their song 'Goodnight' and it was amazing! They were all very talented, not to mention, good looking and they represented a side of Kpop I had not seen as of yet. I immediately fell in love. I wanted HITT to be a big hit. Sadly their 'Goodnight' promotions were hit and miss and they fell off the scene shortly after. I just now, as I was doing some research found out Hayoung from Alphabat was a former HITT member! And the last anyone heard the company wanted to add new members and come out with a different name. But I never saw anything... I hope they are still working on their come back. I really loved that group.
So there you go, It's not that I dislike male groups. It's just that all the ones I really start to like disband or disappear :/ Not much I can do about that. I'm hoping Double A stays together. They are older than most idol groups and haven't gotten as much coverage. But they are very talented and pretty much manage themselves. There are still male groups I like who are together; SHINee, MBLAQ, UKiss, VIXX etc. The list is just a lot smaller than my Kpop girl group list. Who knows though, as time passes I may come to like more male groups. For now I'm gonna check out Alphabat and hope LU:KUS comes back.
